System Restore feature in Windows XP for your PC Rescue
Hi!
Scared of PC crashes?
We all install new software of some or other type in our PC and sometimes the new software makes our PC unstable and non-working. This is where System Restore feature comes to help you.
System Restore is a helpful feature available in Microsoft Windows XP that lets you restore the stable and working XP system files in case of system crash or it becoming unstable. It lets you choose the working copy of the previous stable and working XP from the restore points available in the calendar. It doesn’t affect the data files on your PC. Restore Points are automatically created based on some events for the days when the PC has been used.
Launching System Restore in XP
The System Restore option has to be activated beforehand. To do this, Start (Click)–> All Programs (Place mouse cursor) –> Accessories (Place mouse cursor) –> System Restore (click on it) –> Create a Restore Point (Click on its radio button) –> Type a suitable description (example – before video card driver upgrade) –> Click on Create.
To use System Restore, follow the same procedure as mentioned above till fourth step i.e. System Restore (click on it) –> Restore my computer to an earlier time (choose this option and click on next) –> Choose any one of the bold dates from the Calendar shown in left and click on Next –> “Confirm Restore Point Selection” screen appears advising you to verify that the correct restore point is selected. Close any open programs and click on Next. Files are restored before reboot and the relevant screen showing the restore process is also shown. After reboot and loading of Windows XP, the Restore Files confirmation screen appears, Click on Ok to close it and let the desktop screen appear fully. In case the system is still unstable, you can use a previous date System Restore.

P.S. In case you are using System Restore after a new application that may have made your System unstable, you should uninstall that application. Hope that this tip relaxes you as you now have a System backup and restore tool.
