My Article On One Time Password Rated Best in Special Edition Category By Hakin9 – A Security Magazine

Hi!

It’s time to congratulate and pat my back. I had written an article on OTP (One Time Password) – New Dimensions In Security” for Hakin9 in 2007-2008 and it was published in Feb. 2008 issue.

I got an email from Hakin9 congratulating me on my article on OTP has been rated as best for the special edition category (2007-2008).

Well, I am really happy that the article has been rated as one of the top article by Hakin9 team. I am also surprised on the article being chosen as the best in basic category as I wasn’t expecting it at all. BTW – It was not a very technical article but a basic one only. About Hakin9, Hakin9 is a leading security magazine, more information about it is at:

For some of my friends who might not know about OTP (One Time Password). It’s a technology to add an additional layer of security in traditional user name and password security mechanism. Example: If you have taken One Time Password facility from your bank, then you will have to enter a unique alphanumeric string or code generated by your OTP hardware (token in the form of a keychain etc.) to your banking login screen along with your user name and password. Addition of third piece of information definitely improves your authentication mechanism.

OTP is also used on network environments for user authentication. It can also be sent on user registered cellphone number by the sites that feel that One Time Password (OTP) will add another layer of security to the user credentials. OTP technology is really useful as it adds one more, i.e., third piece of information that is generated easily, is economical (doesn’t require too much setup infrastructure) and is user savvy (no complicated understanding of the technology by taking lengthy trainings etc.) too.

So, if you have yet not taken OTP facility, go for it, it will definitely bring more piece of mind to you via improved – more secure login mechanism when logging in fro your online PC – connected to any network – office or Internet.
