A free inbuilt tool in XP to save keystrokes

Hi,

Today’s tip is about a free tool in XP that can help a mobile impairable or a keyboard newbie (who doesn’t know typing) to type using mouse. This tool is known as “On Screen Keyboard” or “OSK”.

It’s a virtual keyboard that appears on the screen and the user can click on the key that is to be used in the application by using the mouse. Don’t forget to start you application and make it active before using OSK. E.g. – If you want to use On Screen Keyboard in Microsoft Word , then start Word, open the document and then use OSK to type in it.

It works in all other applications too such as Notepad, Excel, PowerPoint and many more offering a substitute of real keyboard.

To start “On Screen Keyboard” -

- Click on Start, Click on Run, type osk and enter

Or

Click on Start, Point at “All Programs”, then at Accessories, Accessibility and finally click on “On-Screen Keyboard”.

You can recommend it to someone who is unable to type much due to some problem or a keyboard newbie who has some urgent typing work that is to be finished soon. I am sure that it’s not used to become lazy icon smile A free inbuilt tool in XP to save keystrokes .

Note: Some of the keys might be written differently (in short) on OSK compared to your real keyboard, e.g.: Caps Lock as lock, Print Screen as psc and Scroll Lock as slk and so on. These key names in short are though very logical and related to the relevant keyboard keys being represented.

Hope that you find this tip useful !.
